DiscountClick.com SSI Overview
There are basically two technical methods ads can be served to your site. SSI or Non SSI. SSI refers to Server Side Include. Where content from another page or URL is included into an html page. SSI offers more flexibility in the content it can deliver. Javascript mode can provide a combination of both SSI & NonSSI. For example in an SSI method of delivery banners can include custom text messages below each banner, where as Non-SSI the text has to be the same for each banner. In order to serve Rich Media Ads, SSI delivery method is required.

SSI Code will typically just be one source URL, Non SSI code will be a URL + img tag + text

To briefly sum up, SSI offers more flexibility and the ads can be more dynamic, however it may require some additional steps in how you code your HTML pages. Non SSI will work with any html page design. However Non SSI mode requires the visitors to have HTML Cookies turned on

The HTML Tag generating wizard will assist you in generating the appropriate html

Javascript Mode will provide a simulated SSI mode for added flexibility, Plus not require Cookies. If the browser does not support javascript, then the banner can be served in either <iframe> (SSI mode), or Non SSI mode.
SSI Delivery options:
  • 1. Use HTML frames where the top or bottom frame contains the HTML ad SSI code.

  • 2. Use HTML <iframe> html ad code... </iframe> Tags placed anywhere in a page no html frames required.

  • 3. Use Javascript Mode ... If the browser does not support javascript optionally either <<iframe>> or NON SSI can be used. (all contained within the same tags)

  • 4. If you or your hosting provider is using the Apache web server. Apache can be configured and mapped to pull includes from another server. In this way your pages will contain ssi include tags that include conten from another source: <!--#include virtual="..." --> This will require some configuration setups. Contact us if you wish to use this method.

Other Notes:
  • Text Only Ads Cannot be served using SSI. Use the HTML tag generated to assist you in generating text ads.

  • Richmedia ads require the use of SSI, due to the nature of them.

  • Both Graphic Banner + Richmedia ads can be rotated with SSI method within the same tags.

  • <iframe> is supported in most but not all browsers. Much older browsers may not support the iframe tag.

  • Javascript mode can combine the best of both SSI/Non SSI for maximum impressions. Browsers that support javascript (most), will first read in the banner in SSI mode. If the browser does not support javascript, either Cookie Based (NON SSI), or <iframe> (SSI includes) will be used.
